iTunes Problem...?

I'm having some trouble with iTunes.

For some reason, while playing music tracks (mp3), the sound will cut off for several seconds. There's a clicking noise coming from my iBook - possibly the hard drive spinning? Sounds like springs or bearings. After that rhythmic clicking (sometimes one second, sometimes more), the music picks right back up where it left off.

I haven't noticed any problems in any other programs - just iTunes. The only change I've made to my system since this began - I plugged in a new set of external speakers.

Anyone know what's going on?

ADDED: I just noticed that the machine is very hot. Would the pausing and slow-down be chatacteristic of overheating? I restarted and the fans kicked into high gear. So far it's running well again. I had been burning backup CDs before I left to let iTunes play.

Thanks,

-blake.

Wrong forum.

P.S. Sounds like your hard drive's about to croak. Replace it, or at minimum, run DiskWarrior 3 on it a couple of times (separated by several days of use) and see what its hardware test says.
