In the middle no where, copying and pasting for OS X just simply stopped. No matter what we do- fsch in single user mode, verify permissions, vodoo- can make it copy and paste from anything to anywhere. I had the user log in as root even to see if that could fix the problem. No go. Anyone have any ideas before I do an Archive/Reinstall?

No, but then again, archive/reinstall isn't a very painful or lengthy way to fix an odd and rare problem like that, especially if you have a broadband connection to help you get back up to date with updates.

I install a new build of Panther each week. Thanks to archive install it's no more painful than a lenghty restart. There's always something on TV to watch

Maybe Apple decided to change that, too. What's next, no mouse?

Strange - the same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. Copy and paste were grayed out in some applications but not others - Mail could copy/paste, but Safari and Texshop couldn't. It happened around the time I installed the security update, so it may have been related .... I tried repairing permissions, repairing the disk etc. but the only thing that fixed it was an archive/reinstall.
