When I go to sleep I like iTunes to play in the background, so I put on a 30 min playlist quietly and dim the screen right down. Now, my energy-saver settings should send the system to sleep after 15 minutes of inactivity, which should be about 45 mins after I set the thing running. But this doesn't happen. Why not? In the morning the playlist has stopped (ie it isn't on repeat or anything) but the sleep light still isn't on; the screen in off, but the machine is still running.

Why?

Some apps can prevent your computer sleeping, DVD Player is one of them, I'm not sure if iTunes does or not. If you had other apps running, perhaps try it with only iTunes and see what happens.

Yeah, iTunes can do this, but I thought it would only do it when playing. It seems not.

Do you have any USB devices, like scanners, attached? I have a Lide 30 scanner and, when connected, my machine can't sleep, even with all the unneccessay files removed.
