Hi all!

I've been trying to find a Mac OS X version of the crypt UNIX command without much success. I have only been able to find some scripts but not the real crypt CLI command. Also, I run into troubles when compiling various sources of this command avalaible on the net.

Do you guys know where I should look to find a crypt command which behave as the traditionnal UNIX version does?

Thanks,

Chu-Ka-Piii

One solution would be to use htpasswd, which produces crypt-compatible hashes.

Code:
[dshaw@flybook ~] htpasswd Usage: htpasswd [-cmdps] passwordfile username htpasswd -b[cmdps] passwordfile username password htpasswd -n[mdps] username htpasswd -nb[mdps] username password -c Create a new file. -n Don't update file; display results on stdout. -m Force MD5 encryption of the password. -d Force CRYPT encryption of the password (default). -p Do not encrypt the password (plaintext). -s Force SHA encryption of the password. -b Use the password from the command line rather than prompting for it. On Windows, TPF and NetWare systems the '-m' flag is used by default. On all other systems, the '-p' flag will probably not work.
