A friend of mine has an Old World ROM G3 laptop. He wants to put Gentoo Linux on it. Currently he has 10.2 running on the Powerbook, and cannot get the boot CDs to start up his Mac. Does anyone know how to install Gentoo on an old PowerBook that is running OSX now?

He does not want it as a Dual boot option, he wants to have only Gentoo on the laptop.

Thanks,

t

I don't know specifically about Gentoo, but some distros won't run on an old world machine. Read the install/sys requirements/hardware compatibility reqs on the gentoo site.

Also, if he downloaded the iso's himself, make sure they were burned properly as CD/DVD Masters. If not, they won't work.

Maybe try Yellowdog Linux, it's made specifically for Mac PPC machines....
