OK, it's a rumour, but it sounds interesting and ThinkSecret has a better track record than average.

OS X.3 Tachyon ~ new hardware? G5 Xserve?

This is from MacRumors

Tachyon is the name of some of Apple's G5 Developer's tools, casting doubt that a new Panther update would share the same name.

An anonymous report clarifies some of Apple's Codename categories:

Sub-particles = Developer Tools
Colors (Green/Pink/etc) = Jaguar updates
Lord of the Rings characters (Smeagol/Deagol/etc) = G5-enabling system updates.

Insider info? Kinda, someone at MacRumors posted a link to a apple document stating that Tachyon was in beta and was developer tools. So yea, TS is wayyyy off
