In Windows, there is a specific bunch of files that must reside at the root of CD if you want to do this.

How does one do this on a MAC?

I want to burn an HFS (native MAC) CD but when inserted, rather than the bland old CD icon, it shows one of my choosing.

Thanks in advance!

First things first it's Mac not MAC. MAC is a networking term amongst other things.

On to the topic at hand: I haven't tried it but the way I imagine you would do this is mount the blank in the Finder, get info on the CD that shows up, copy - paste an icon of your choosing to it, put stuff on disk and burn. Now that is how it should work, whether or not it does is a homework assignment for you.

If you are burning form the finder - when the Blank CD appears in the Finder, you can paste an icon on to the CD and it should appear on the burned CD. (I think, haven't burned a CD with a custom icon for a while)

If you are burning from Toast - I'm not sure.

If you burn it from Toast, just put a custom icon on the top folder you are burning.

I must read this picky comment half a dozen times a week. Yeah, MAC grates a bit, but you'll never educate everyone, and is it really such a big deal? hell, it's not like we're destroying Apple's branding strategy with a few capital letters on a forum. Let it go

Not so sure the copy/paste technique works, but placing the icon file you want on the root of the CD and naming it .VolumeIcon.icns should work.
I do, however, know for a fact it works with Disk Images. I've got a bunch of custom icons for all my disk images that I created in that manner.
