I know there is a simple answer for this one, but I can't figure it out. For example, it had been a while since I used the Mac, it was sleeping, I hit the space bar, a desktop came up...who's is it? Is it my user account or my wife's? Again, there must be an easy answer here...
Thanks,
Mike
P.S. Also, in Windows, hitting "end" puts the cursor at the end of a line. What does this on the Mac?

As for the first question...in Jaguar you simply have to be able to tell the difference (who has which desktop background, etc.). In Panther, though, there will be a menu at the top right next to the clock indicating the active user.
As for the second question...if you are using a Pro Keyboard, just hit End as usual. If you're on a laptop, hit Command-Forward Arrow. (This works on Pro Keyboards, too.)

i guess there are a few quick ways to find this out in 10.2.x...like, from the finder meno click "go" and then "home" - is it your home dir or hers? another is from the apple menu click "about this mac" and then "more..." - that brings up apple system profiler and it tells you on the first tab who's account is active.

The down arrow will take you to the end of the line (if it's single line field or the last line of a multi-line field). The up arrow takes you to the beginning. Or, as someone mentioned, Cmd-forward takes you to the end of the current line, even on multi-line fields. Cmd-back takes you to the beginning.
And, while your other question was answered in various ways, you could avoid it by simply choosing a custom desktop picture for yourself, and/or encouraging your wife to do the same. If you really like whatever you both have chosen (you must have the same desktop if it's confusing), you could edit the picture and add your name to the lower left or something similar. Make a version for her. And each choose your version. Then you have the desktop you like and you have a name at the bottom. But this will be a moot point in a month or so.
