10.2.6 17" iMac 1 GIG RAM

Why should this happen? Only peripheral attached is webshuttle DSL modem, nothin' in the Superdrive,I wait carefully for everything to quit and disconnect before sleeping

All F's along the bottom of message window

Is your DLS modem USB connected?

That message is called a "kernel panic." In basic terms, it's a system crash.
Try unplugging the DSL modem, and see if the panics continue. If that fixes it, then we'll at least know the source of the problem.

Just curious. Do you have an external Firewire drive connected? I was having the same thing happen until I disconnected it. I've been crash free since.

Did you have to install a package for the DSL modem? If so it probably was a Kernel Extension - Which may be buggy (which causes a Kernel Panic.)

Yeah, those "U need to restrt" errors are caused by a corrupt spelling engine.

Installlation was by an installer programme

All of my macs have external FW drives and I have never had a KP related to them.
