I know most of you have seen countless posts with advice on kernel panics, but this one is not like the rest of them. I have had them happen to me before, but not like this. Here is the situation.
I have an eMac 700 that panics at startup, about 15 seconds after the boot chime. It panics during Safe Boot and during Single User mode. It panics booting from the HD and an OS X install CD, but I am able to boot from the hardware test CD. I have run the extended tests and nothing has been found to be a possible cause. It won’t boot from a DiskWarrior CD. I swapped out the RAM and still had the same problems. Booting in target mode will not mount the HD on my PowerBook. Booting from an OS 9 CD or net boot will pause at the gray screen and hang. I have booted into open firmware and tried reset-nvram and reset-all with no luck. I have replaced the battery and reset the PMU with no luck. When it starts up I do not hear the HD spin up, but I don’t know if it is just really silent.
What do you think it may be? After all of this I am thinking it may be the HD or the Logic Board. If you have any other ideas please share them with me. Thanks in advance for any help
