In Entourage there was an option to show if a message was still on the server or not. As far as I know Mail under Jaguar cannot do this?
Has such an option been added to Mail under Panther?

I have Mail set to delete message from the server after a certain period of time, but I would like to know which ones are still up, and which ones were removed.

Thanks,

t

I don't think it specifically has that option but it seems pretty obvious. Like you said it can be set to remove them after a certain period. I have mine set to one week. So just by looking at the timestamp you can easily tell. In my case, if the message is less than a week old it's still on the server. If it's more than a week old, it's not. Simple.

That assumes that mail diligently contacts the server at the appropriate time and issues the DELE command. You can't be 100% sure this has happened... for example your info would be garbage if you were unconnected for a few days.

Have you guys used Entourage? That was a feature that I really liked. Entourage would mark all the massages telling you if they were on the server or not. Then you could manually select the ones you wanted to remove.

It was really nice I loved it.
I do not think that I should count back by days to tell which ones are online. It would be easier to tell if the email client had this feature.

Yes, I'm familiar with the feature, and I agree.

However with Mail I use IMAP because the support is so nice. So I'm 100% sure what messages are on the server

Well obviously if you weren't connected then it wouldn't work. And you are right that Mail doesn't contact the server separately to delete messages. That only occurs when it checks for new mail. I check mine every 15 minutes so that always keeps it updated.

And while Entourage does have a few features like this that are better than Mail, I find it much less useable overall. It gives me the same bloated M$ experience of the other Office apps. I like the fact that Mail is more simple and elegant.
