i have mac os x 10.2 and i'm getting a G5 soon. i've sold my iMac which will be shipping in the next few days and besides burning most of my files onto DVD or CD i want to transfer them to my windows laptop. (so then i can transfer them back onto the G5)

however i connect absolutely fine (over the ethernet and sharing the same router), but when i have my folder and drag it onto my XP desktop a message appears:

"Cannot copy Icon
: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."

I do have ...icons on my folders on the Mac, but is this really the problem?? otherwise, i have no idea how to deal with this.

thanks in advance!

hey - i got it! i fixed it. turns out the icons i had on the folders on the mac were freakin out XP ... so i right-clicked in XP onto my folder, hit "search" and chose as "icon" for the item. found all of them and had no choice but to delete them. and presto, it works.

well, then this was a pointless post. thanks anyway.

You could stuff your folders first then copy over the archive files. That should let you keep your icons.
You can take the dude out of So Cal, but you can't take the dude outta the dude, dude!
