I have a graphite iBook SE 466. The original 10GB HDD stopped spinning and I replaced it with a 60GB Hitachi. I proceeded to install
Jaguar, installation was successful. Upon rebooting all I get is sh-05a#. Google generates a few pages with similar problems none offer useful suggestions. I reinstalled Jaguar twice. I've run FSCK. I've run Diskwarrior. I'm stuck. Right now I'm installing OS9 from the original disk. It just finished...wow old school. So that worked.
Obviously Janguar isn't installing itself right. How do I fix this?
Should I jump on the PATH and bring it to Apple SOHO? Thanks.

I posted this in the wrong forum a few minutes ago.
Update. Installing OS9 did work. Installing Jaguar over OS9 gives me the same thing a grey screen with sh-2.05a# in the corner. If I type logout (suggested in the macaddict forums) I get a operation not supported followed by a System Failure: cpu=0; code00000001 (Corrupt Stack. Then there is a line: Latest crash info for cpu 0. Then I get a page full of HEX values. Any Ideas?

sh-2.05# is the command line prompt. So it's just not making it to the full GUI. I know you installed Jaguar three times, but I think you ought to try again. When you're booted from the install CD, choose Disk Utility from the File menu. Completely erase the hard drive, then quit Disk Utility and continue with the install. If it fails again, perhaps you need to find a different install CD.

if you haven't, try zapping your PRAM by holding CMD-OPT-PR on boot.

If that doesn't work, run diskutil and reformat your drive like chabig suggested.

If that still doesn't work, go into OpenFirmware (CMD-OPT-OF on boot) and type these two commands: reset-nvram then reset-all.

Try formatting/installing Jag again.

If it still doesn't work, call apple.

Sixth times the charm. I don't know what was different this last time but the installation took and everything is working now. Thanks for the responses. New question. How do ressurect a dead harddrive. I was able to get the top shell off and move the head arm (acctuator?) off of the plater. It's now attached to a Oxford 900, not 911, based firewire bridgecard. When I plug it in the Finder complains that there isn't a partition and would I like to initialize. I say no and proceed to try Norton's 7 and Diskwarrior 3 to see if either can fix the partition. However neither can see the drive. Disktools can't see it either. Granite Digital's SMARTvue can't see either. Any ideas?

If you opened up the hard drive, it'll never work again. It's toast, since the environment inside the case has been contaminated.
