I know the Inkwell control panel normally shows in Systme Preferences when a Wacom is plugged in, but is there any way of forcing it to appear and for Inkwell to accept mouse input instead?

I have tried to do this with no success.

I version of Panther I had (I forget which one) had the preference pane enabled, which satisfied by curiosity.

You can force the Ink prefPanel to appear, but it will not take mouse input

Okay, thanks.

Next difficult question (will really need someone with a tablet): if a tablet is connected, do it and the mouse have the same effect?

Or does only moving the cursor with the tablet allow the gestures, etc?

It only works with the tablet.

If you told it to use the mouse as pen input then how would you use the mouse? There is a button to toggle between mouse and pen input in Inkwell, but you have to either press a button on the pen or (gasp!) move your mouse over there and click it. Not going to happen when OS X thinks you're trying to draw a picture.
