Okay. My Powerbook refuses to mount both my ipod and any other hfs+ formatted discs. DVD's work fine. I went to the apple store today to see what they could tell me and they plugged in a firewire drive and booted from it and my ipod would mount fine then. They started repairing permissions on my boot volume from the firewire disk and it was showing major permissions problems. They quit the permissions repair because it was going to take hours to finish and told me I could do the same thing by putting my osx install disc in and using disc utility from there. However, disc utility from my osx cd found very little wrong with the drive and my ipod still won't mount. Anybody have any ideas?

Does your Power Book have more that one Firewire port? If so... is anything else plugged into it?

Had issues with my iPod being extremely slow, would mount in iTunes but never update.

Unplugging my iSight fixed the issue. Odd but true. Guess I need a powered Firewire hub to connect both without issues. I'll stick to just unplugging my iSight when I want to update my iPod.

Nope. Just the one and I have no other devices connected. It's really weird. If I open system profiler it shows that the ipod is there. If I open disk utility it shows up but is grayed out and won't mount. It's just altogether strange.

Do you get any messages in Console.app when you plug in your iPod? Something mentioning autodiskmount, perhaps?

Upgrade to 10.2.8 using Software Update - it's supposed to fix some issues with Firewire drives.

Richyfp

I get the following when plugging in the ipod:
Sep 22 22:18:35 klduke /sbin/autodiskmount[220]: disk2s3 hfs no yes iPod [not mounted]

Sep 22 22:18:35 klduke /sbin/autodiskmount[220]: DiskVolume_mount_foreign: unrecognized return code from foreignMountDevice: -4

Sep 22 22:18:35 klduke /sbin/autodiskmount[220]: disk2s3 hfs no yes iPod [not mounted]

and then the following repeats many times:

Looking for devices matching vendor ID=1193 and product ID=8718
Looking for devices matching vendor ID=1193 and product ID=8717

I already updated to 10.2.8 and it didn't seem to help. Any more ideas?
