Over the past few months, and with all of the recent OSX versions, I have noticed that ftping files down from our internal W2K Server often results in hangs, even on small files. We're on a fast ethernet network and all the other (non OSX) machines download fine. I've used various software solutions (Dreamweaver, Transmit etc) and the problem seems to effect them all. Does anybody know if there is an issue with the ftp code at the core of OSX? Is there any way of troubleshooting the problem through OSX?

in your system preferences, go to the "Built-in Ethernet" section of the network pane. under the "Proxies" tab, try checking or un-checking the "Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV)". this is the only core ftp option i can think of, and not having it set when i need it has caused hangs for me. good luck :c)

Thanks for the tip, but it makes no difference. Whatever the issue is, it seems to affect all my internet applications downloading any files from our local server.
