Perhaps a fix for the power and ethernet issues? I only forgive Apple for this one because it's non-damaging (unlike that old iTunes update) and they're fixing it promptly. Only problem is if you're on broadband and an early G4 tower, this patch is only available by the means of what it's fixing.

C'mon Apple, you're better than this.

Well, whatever Apple decides to do, people with broken ethernet networking are gonna have a gripe for getting the post 10.2.8 fix onto their macs. Software Update won't connect.

Edit: I guess this is what the post above is saying, too.

From what I've heard is people can still boot into OS 9 and get the download (stand-alone) from there...and then they would actually open and install the .pkg from within OS X....

I don't have 9 any more on my G4 tower but SBC/Yahoo gives you a free dialup account with their DSL in case of outages and for when you're on the road. I just used that to get the non-fuxxored kext. Maybe a free 1800 dialup number for the update

This is definitely good news. After reading all the problems with battery life, I wasn't about to upgrade my two machines... both of which are portables. Nice to see Apple listening to problems.

It's now no longer as a separate download either. I've updated around 6 machines already and have had no problems so far... but I guess I better stop at this point.

Figures. Hope everyone can take a deep breath and be patient for Panther so that Apple doesn't put out another similarly buggy update.

Installed the Server update on my server, no issues so far except the exceptionally long time it took to boot directly after the update.... were talking about 11 minutes, a second reboot that i ordered finished in about the time it normally does so i guess there isn't anything seriously wrong. No ethernet problems :o) However, the PowerBook G4 has a slightly different story. everything works great, it's even a bit speedier, however my battery life is absolutely hosed.... I went from having about 3 hour 40 minutes, to 1 hour 40 minutes... quite a substantial jump. I dont want to reinstall my production OS, so i simply rebooted into Panther and i am awaiting Apple to fix their mistake. This update is pretty bad, but in no way is it as bad a 10.2.2 in which a USB conflict caused my Soundsticks to suck up 500% of the processor rendering the machine useless....

I digress, and i wait, for a 10.2.9 update :o)

Yes, obviously there is no quality control department that could be held responsible.
