I'm about to install Yellow Dog Linux 3.0.1 on my Dual 1GHz G4. It has two 80GB HD's, 1GB of RAM, and a GeForce 4MX.

I'm going to install all three OS's (9,X,YDL) and would like for the files created in each OS to be visible and usable to each other. I'd also like to maintian the maximum amount of usable HD space following all the partitions and installs.

Does anyone have any configuration advice? Partitioning schemes, installation hints, etc?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

well, you could make the partition you want all the files you want to access like music and movies etc, on a "hfs" drive not "hfs+" since i think linux still has problems accessing them but i could be wrong now because there is "hfs+ utils"

the first time i attemped to set it up like that i started with:
9 i made it semi-minimal, i gave it about 1.5 gigs (which was generous)
osx i gave it 5.5 gigs (that was almost to little to include swap and users)
linux i gave 2 gigs (way to small i found after)

after i found making an extra partition for my users directory for osx was perfect
i dont have that setup anymore, but here is what my ibook 20 gig drive was like that i found 'comfortable':
4 gigs for linux
1.5 gigs for os9
5 gigs for osx
2 gigs for /Users
the rest was an hfs drive to hold my music and movies that i could access with all of the os's
w3rd..

the 2.4.22 kernel has hfs+ support. write support is experimental, but it's better than nothing (and those hfs+ utils are pretty dreadful..).
to avoid any problems, you can mount the hfs+ partitions from os9 and osx read-only, in which case no harm will be done.
