I installed the hard drive in a peecee, and it formatted fine. But I can't use Disk Utility to erase or partition it. I've tried to use Norton Disk Doctor, it didnt help. I've tried many combinations of jumper settings (slave, master, etc.), connected it to different buses (ATA 100 and ATA 66), and ever removed all other hard drives. I was convinced that this was a bad drive, but it worked in a peecee.

Disk Utility, in 10.2, seems to be buggy or something. While I choose to erase, It goes through the beginning process, then stops without warning or any other indication. Strangly the process dialog is put in the background, is only viewable while Disk Utility is active, and it never progresses. http://emermac.front.ru/disutl.jpg It never completes because the drive is never able to mount. If I try to verify or repair it, it completes the process in less than a second and gives no errors. I dont think it's actually checking anything...

I found that Disk Utility in Panther is much more helpful. At least it gives me an error when I try to erase the HD. It says I don't have permission. The info on the drive indicates it read/write, and I dont understand why i wouldn't have the privililiges... When i try to verify or repair the drive, I get an error on 'the underlying diskHJFGKF'.

I am stumped. It's a white labeled Western Digital 180 gig drive. I just bought it, it doesn't appear to have been used before. I'm on a duel 867 G4. Any suggestions?

Well thanks for your help guys I determined the problem was with the Gigabit ethernet G4s. I remind you, it formateted in the peecee, and i just formatted it in an older G4 (only 128gig wwas recongnized though). I have access to another gigabit G4, and i had the same problem. Doesnt this sound like a motherboard issue?

Has anyone every used a Western Digital 180gig drive in a G4? Successfully?

Ooh! Are we here to adress your every little problem? Could it be possible that no one knows of the problem, and doesn't really feel like researching it?

Geez, I for one am glad you didn't get an answer when you have an attitude like that. We are not here to serve you, just to help. And if you don't get any help, tough luck.

Didn't mean it to stir any emotions like that. Just a sarcastic comment. Sorry for sounding like a butthole.
