First off, I don't know if this is the right forum, but it is Unix/Linux related so this is where I'll start. Here goes:

On my new 15" PB Alu, I partitioned the HD into 2 sections, ~60GB for OS X and the rest for Linux. I installed YDL 3.0 from the 3 download CDs onto the 2nd partition.

YDL can't run in graphical mode because it doesn't have drivers for the Radeon Mobility 9600. Since I wanted YDL so I could do KDE development for my Linux class, this has made YDL unuseable for me.

What I'd like to do now is get rid of the boot menu that comes up (pick l for Linux, x for OS X, or c for CD boot). I thought I could just wipe the second partition and 1MB boot partition that was created.

The problem is, I can't see those partitions using Disk Utility in OS X. It only shows me the ~60GB OS X partition. What do I need to use to see the other partitions (Linux, 1MB boot, & swap)? If I booted X from the restore DVD, would Disk Utility then be able to see the non OS X partitions?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

This is another way to approach you needs. X11 and fink will let you use the KDS environment with OS X.

Are you familiar with these?

I tried Fink with my old PowerBook, but I couldn't get it to download / install X11 properly.

On my new PowerBook, I have XFree86 v 4.3.0 (from XonX I believe) installed, but I don't know how to go about getting KDE 3.1.x downloaded / compiled (unless you know of PPC binaries) and installed. I don't even know enough about CVS to understand how to log in and download the proper code files.

If you could point me to a HOWTO / FAQ that would be awesome, as I'm not even really sure where to start and my Google search results haven't been as helpful as they normally are.

If I go this route, I would still want those "lost" 20GB back and I still need help with this partitioning issue.

Try rebooting with the YDL install CD, select Disk Druid partitioning method, and see if Disk Druid can make an HFS partition. I'm pretty sure it won't do HFS+.

Once you have an HFS partition, you can use the Disk Utility to make it HFS+.
