well I guess this is a 2 parter....
1. after playing with 10.3 betas, does any one think the new finder icon is a major step back? It seems to light, doesn't match the other blues of the OS, and it loosk to thin, like a cheap plastic trinket? am I the only one who sees this?
2. and 2, is it about time we lost the smiley face? we lost the smiley boot Mac and I think we havn't been beter, mac OS X has really grown up into a sleek stylish OS, y not lose the face and replace it with something a bit more grown up than a ? I have no idea what, I really wouldn't want another apple but I think the GUI guys at apple could come up with somethign really kool. what do you all think?

1. Yes. I dislike the new Happy Mac compared to the one in Jag.
2. Eh, I'd have to say yes, we could use something different, maybe a little more classy. I think the boot screen that Jag ships with is nice. I wouldn't mind a change of the Finder icon as well. Nothing else Apple has is even similar. Almost everything has a "real world" looking icon. But, it doesn't bother me to leave it the way it is.

I think the Mac OS/Finder icon is kept the way it is for branding issues more than anything else. Changing your OS logo isn't something you do when you get tired of it. It's more complicated than that.
But a change now wouldn't be a terrible thing in my opinion. I think if they change it at all, it should be a slight change. An update more than a complete change, I guess.

yah the only real world style icon i could think would replaceit would be a icon of the new brushed metal finder, and then apple uses the aqua appe or the X for all its "Mac Version" stuff. I mean we donlt need 3 damn logos.

I think this whole FInder thing needs to be rethought. Why is it called Finder? Is grandma going to know what I mean when I tell her to open a new Finder window? I mean, I think it works great, but I think it could be branded with a better metaphor than the smiley face.

Seriously, tell grandma to stick with her knitting needles. If she needs to open a window, the bathroom window will do just fine.
