PLEASE HELP ME!

I am struggling to get my g4 cube hooked up to my new widescreen HDTV. It is proving to be a big Ole pain in the ass. Through the search I have seen that there are a lot of people that have had a similar problem, but they all seem to have given up due to a lack of community knowledge on the subject. I have learned some information, but no where near enough to find the solution.

The problem is the tv (like most hdtvs) only excepts the following resolutions, 640x480 at 60hz, 1280x720 at 60hz, and 1920x1080 at 56hz. Of these resolutions the computer only supports 640x480. Unfortunately this is not an ideal resolution. Both the top and bottom of the image are cropped (the dock and menu bar are in the affected regions). With VGA my TV cannot manipulate the 640x480 image into a 16x9 format.

If the world were a perfect one I would choose to have the resolution running at the 1280x720 option (this resolution is known as the 720p standard in the HDTV world).

I have tried switchres with no success. Though 1920x1080 is listed it is running at 60hz and I need 56hz. I have read that the developer of switchres has had success making custom resolutions, but he has not included that support in switchres to date (I read this here http://www.htmug.com/phpBB2/viewtopi...ght=powerstrip).

It was suggested that I might be able to use REZLIB to attain my goal ( http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/18519 ). Unfortunately I was to busy watching Star Trek or something to learn programming so I don't understand what the program really is. I have looked through it though and was intrigued enough to ask. WHAT IS IT AND CAN IT HELP! I'd be pretty happy if I could just make an app like VLC use the 720p resolution... though the whole sha bang would be nice

Thank you so much for your help on my crusade. If you have any other helpful ideas please share (i am looking to constrain the finder UI as a temporary solution). Also I can tell you that there are plenty for people that would pay dearly for a piece of software that could do this... DEARLY I SAY. A shareware app for home theater... think of it!

It just seems like this has to be possible! I don't blame Apple for not having the support built in, BUT I have been really surprised to see just how many people have their mac hooked up to their TV. Wonder if 10.3 will address this?

Thanks again,
Will

Also: The TV is a Phillips 30" widescreen and it is connected via VGA to the computer. The Cube is a 450mhz, G4 with a Rage 128, 16mb graphics card. It is running 10.2.6.
