I've heard this is how I can reinstall Mac OS X without wiping my settings, but there is one question that I have:
Will I lose all of my files? Such as things on the Desktop, in the Applications folder, or my music in my iTunes folder? Or will all of these things still be there when run Archive and Install?

As far as I know, Archive&Install will only save your home directory. So you won't loose your iTunes music library (provided it's in your home dir) and things on your Desktop. But you'll loose applications installed in /Applications ...
