The operation could not be completed because this item is owned by root.
I'm tryin gto delete the Micfosoft Office X that came along with my powerbook, and osx isn't allowing me to deleted it.

Right nows its on the harddrive:Microsoft office x.

Could someone tell me what I should do?

Try this: open the Terminal and type in

"sudo rm -d "

(without the quotes and with a space after the d).

Then drag and drop your Office X folder to the Terminal window (this will copy the folder's path to the window). With the Terminal window active, hit Return.

Type your password when asked and hit Return again. The folder should be gone!

Open terminal and type EXACTLY

sudo rm -r /Microsoft\ office\ x

then provide your administrative password

Warning, mistyping this command can result in disaster.

You should be able to delete it when you are logged in with your admin account. I would recommend that you try that first.
If that does not work, check the permissions on that folder in the info box and change the group to "admin" if it isn't, then you should be able to delete it.
