Regarding 10.2.8 problems, instead of archive and install, I suppose it wouldn't be possible to simply re-install 10.2.6 would it?

I noticed this link and I thought hmmm...no, wait...maybe..nah, to easy.

What would happen if I tried this? Nothing since I would still have 10.2.8 on my computer?

It won't work. You can't just install the 10.2.6 combo updater over 10.2.8. The installer won't let you. Besides, 10.2.8 might have updated components not found in the 10.2.6 updater. Then you could really have problems.

If you're not having any problems with 10.2.8, just stick with it until the new version comes out. Otherwise, do an archive and install.

I agree. If your network is working properly with 10.2.8, then don't worry about reinstalling. The main reason the update was pulled is because certain G4 machines lost the ability to use a network after restart.

Also it was pulled hopefully because of some powerbooks refuse to display the correct battery readout! Pb 17" for example

We won't know that until the new version is released.

Well some of us Powerbook users know that from the update on 10.2.8 so it was clearly the update that caused the problem with the battery readouts and the 10.2.8 updates.....

I'd love to install 10.2.8 on the 17" powerbooks in the Apple store and let them figure out what the hell happened to their battery readouts! Then maybe they can blame it on something else...instead of 10.2.8

what do you think of that idea?

I know that 10.2.8 caused battery problems, but we won't know if Apple pulled the update to address those problems until the new one comes out.

My iBook sure was affected by 10.2.8. And I'm not the only one. Tonight at the Apple Store I saw 2 PowerBook users and 2 other iBook users come in with the same complaint. I started up my iBook with a 100% charge and the Mac Genius watched as the battery drained to 94% in a few seconds, then 80% in a few minutes, then low battery warning, then 70% in a few minutes more, and then forced sleep in less than 20 minutes.

He then did some research and found this.
