Hearing that Panther will be three CD's + one for Developer tools, isn't it time for Apple to offer the OS on DVD?
Jaguar came on a DVD with my new Mac and it made installation a breeze.
Since Panther will be on 4 CD's I think it's time for the OS to be available on DVD-ROM. WHat do you think?

would certainly make life easier for those people with a DVD drive...
not to mention the fact that I seem to keep loosing either one or the other of my Jag CD's, but there would be no more cd switching, so i could just leave the machine to install all by itself.

How about the option of having the 4 cds + the DVD in one box?

I don't imagine Apple will do that, for one simple reason:

Yeah, that sounds like a better option...
Plus if you loose, or scratch your DVD, you always have the CD copies to rely on as backups!
could get piracy issues though...
people buying one copy between two, and then saying they lost the original box and receipt, but have the disks to prove they bought it... Minus either the dvd or cd version though, because of course, that would have been lost with the box too!!

why do you say that? it doesn't cost them more than a few cents to stamp out a DVD as well. I don't think it really encourages piracy any more, since it's just as easy to let someone borrow the discs to install it on their computer as it is to give them a second set of discs.

DVD is good only for those who have a DVD-capable optical drive.
Since Panther runs on USB-equipped hardware (I guess)... some of them got a CD-ROM or CDRW drive only...
may be 10.4...

DVD is fine for my TiBook w/Superdrive.
CD for my B&W G3.
And since I don't fancy buying two versions if the option existed CDs would allow me to install on both Macs. And damn the licence agreement.

Nope. CD Only. While both would be nice (like a backup!), I don't expect it.

I wanan see a dvd/cd offer for both. But what I really want is a itunes style software store, where I could download 10.3 form apples high speed severs and burn it myself while i wait for my cds/dvd to come in the mail.

I was quite upset that there was not an option to vote for distribution on 800K floppies. Without that option, I will not be able to install OSX on my MacPlus! 120K 5.25 floppies would even be better for my A-][. PLEaSE APpLE--don't leave me out!
---gralem
btw, yes that is sarcasm. One day (perhaps v11) OSX will only be distributed on DVD. It will happen--fact.
