I'm having trouble with some machines running 10.2.6. If I open a Get Info dialog for a given file, expand the "Open with:" pane, change the default application to another and then click on "Change All..." the drop down menu resets to the original default and the change is not applied.

I've tried deleting com.apple.LaunchServices.plist and that does not appear to help.

Any suggestions/comments?

comment: i had the same thing happen to me. i had panther and jaguar in their own partition. when in jaguar, the os always wanted to use the most recent (panther) version of apps. i went through the procedure you described, without the prefs sticking. getting rid of panther solved that problem. may not apply in your case, though.

No Panther, only 10.2.6 on an 867 Ti.

If you have panther on another partition and you're running jag, always eject panther's right after startup, otherwise the system gets confused.

Point taken, but once again, there is no Panther on this machine. It has never been installed, run, or even on a disk mounted by this machine.
