In Mac OS 9 you could double click on a sound file to play it. Can you do that in Mac OS X? If you double click on a sound file to play it in Mac OS X, what format do the sound files have to be in? If you cannot double click on a sound file to play it, is there a program that you can drag a sound file onto that will play it instantaneously?

You can click once on the icon while in column view to play any sound or movie format that QuickTime recognizes, right in the Finder.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

That is true. I don't know why I totally skipped over that, as I use it all the time...

If you have this application you can double click system 7 sounds. Although I would strongly recommend NOT using that format anymore. AIFF is the way to go.
