OK as previous noted I have PB 17 Rev A and that battery problem thing that people are also reporting loss in battery time or bad meter readouts due to 10.2.8 updates (not other updates or 3rd party stuff)

NOW THE NEW PROBLEM THAT I NOTICED BUT KINDA LEFT IT ALONE FOR A WHILE IS THAT THE MENU BAR LOSES ITS LITTLE ICONS OF ENERGY METER, AIRPORT METER, MONITOR DISPLAY ICON, and whatever icon you put up there, after shutting down.....anyone help me confirm this?

It seems that everytime I shut down the computer and then boot up, the menu bar loses its preferences or memory on how I formally arranged my icons on the menu bar to the extreme right corner........HELP.........It has happened to me approximately 9 times already....

does it happen for all users? sounds like corrupted preferences.. unfortunately, i don't know which preferences.
(no problem here with 10.2.8)

if it is a corrupted preference thing then it happened right after 10.2.8 update! I swear! That and the loss in Battery readout times (be it actual battery time or what the OS is telling me time)

If anyone knows what preference I should wipe out to reconfigure the OS menu bar on top (the one where time and battery readouts are usually shown) let me know!

or maybe it IS an OS issue for SOME people like me ...hmm....

ok..have a nice day..

Well seeing as the update is no longer available and was pulled soon after it was released, I'm guessing these are all bugs that were found soon after release. Hopefully they'll all be fixed in the updated update.

cheers Ry

Yup - the same thing's happening to me (1GHz TiBook).

It started to happen within a day of updating to 10.2.8. I've made no other changes to my system configuration in weeks, nor have I ever seen anything like this happen before. I've had to reset all of my menu bar icons three times so far.

BTW, I'm also experiencing the dramatic reductions in indicated battery life that other users are reporting (although the battery still actually lasts as long as it used to).

These things aren't earth-shattering, I realize, but they sure are annoying. Hope we see a fix soon...

along with the reduced battery thing...when i log in sometimes, the 3rd party apps load first, moving the apple icons over on my menubar.

annoying (but worse things to worry about)...
like the battery problem!

hope they get it ALL fixed soon.

I'm glad I did an archive-and-install reversion to 10.2.6.

My battery life really IS lower, it's not just a readout problem. The charge sinks like a rock much faster than it did directly before 10.2.8 and the computer DOES shut down when the readout says it "should".

Sucks but since I'm tethered a lot of the time, I'm just going to wait for Panther rather than trying to revert to 10.2.6.

I'm hoping for a 10.2.8.1 or 10.2.9 Update because I'm not paying $129 just to fix the problems that 10.2.8 caused. I've been planning on upgrading to 10.3 with a new hardware purchase. In fact, I'm not upgrading to Panther until it ships factory installed on a computer I buy.

C'mon Apple, WHERE IS OUR FIXED UPDATE??!

I've been having some odd network-related problems on my PB(AirPort) and G4(ethernet). They loose the connection sometimes after sleeping.

It never happened before the .8 upgrade.

any chance you're running out of disk space?

Also, try deleting preferences for com.apple.systemuiserver.plist. And fix your broken caps lock key while you're at it.
