I think it is possible, however why would you? Firewire is not designed for networking. Use ethernet if you have that option.

Otherwise, there is software available to use Firewire for networking. But I can't comment, as I don't know anybody who's tried it.

On the Contrary, Firewire is PERFECT for networking, and in fact, in Panther, Apple has listed the FireWire port as yet another network interface that you can chose from (fw0) Firewire is very fast, and amazing adaptive to environments (mac to PC) I don't know for sure but i think that PC Firewire ports have a different pin-out than Mac firewire ports, which might make it unusable between a mac and a PC, but Mac -> Mac IP over Firewire would be perfect for a small network environment.

Yes it's possible, in theory. as you guys know Apple is still 'beta' testing the IPover firewire thing?

It could be downloaded from ADC website.

Firewire isn't that fast. Gigabit ethernet is faster, and has been standard on Power Macs for quite a while. However, I think Power Macs are the only Macs with Gigabit ethernet so IP over Firewire could benefit everything but Power Macs.

Wintel FireWire and Mac FireWire are the same standard (supposed to be), IEEE1394 .. the only difference you'd encounter is the number of pins, depending on if it's a powered connector or not (6 pins vs. 4 pins). You can get cables that convert from one to the other, in fact, the iPod for Windows ships with a dongle that does just that. Not quite sure if Windows supports IP of FireWire.. I believe it does, not 100% sure.
