Hi

Is it possible to have the "Home" button in Finder displayed on the desktop as a folder ? I tried dragging it out - but no luck.

The Home button does nothing more than take you directly to your Home directory. You can get to your home directory through the Finder like this...open your hard drive, then open the Users folder. In that folder is your home folder. Hold down the command-option and then drag the home folder to your desktop. You are creating what's called an alias. It will sit on the desktop and look just like your home directory, but it's really just a pointer (a stand-in) for your home directory.

hold down the 2 buttons to the left of the spacebar and drag the "home" icon from the finder window to the desktop.. that will create a shortcut to it.

**added**

also, note that you can put a shortcut to any folder (applications, the home folder, etc) in the Dock if you drag its icon to the right side of the Dock's divider line. Then, you can open that folder by just clicking on it, or you can browse through its subfolders by right clicking it (or hold down control and click if you have a 1 button mouse).
