To Developers, Experienced Mac Mates,

I just bought my first powerbook , 12" SD on October 1st from an Apple Store. Since the 10.3 Panther gone Gold Master, it should hit shelves in 2-3 weeks.

My question/issue is:

Will I and other recent Apple buyers be able to get a free copy of the Panther, using the Software Coupons that came with the purchase?

What was the time range when Apple handed out such an upgrade last time? I remember as, Apple accepted coupons of purchases that were dated up to 1 month before the release. Please inform me on this subject.
If I am not able to upgrade, I am thinking of bringing my 12" AlBook back to the store, since I have a time till Oct 11.

Regards,

SG

I thought Apple only offered free upgrades if you buy your computer after the official release of the new software. ie. if it is slightly older stock. The fact that whatever release may or may not be GM is irrelevant.

Why should they? Yours shipped with Jaguar. You knew it was going to ship with jaguar. It said OS X 10.2 right on the page you bought the thing from.

since nobody's answered this really.

No.

If you buy after they've announced the official release date, but before that date comes (or after if you comp. shipped with old system software), then you may well be able to get a copy, but since they haven't announced a release date yet, you sol.

Exactly. Until Apple issues a PR and release date of Panther, you're stuck paying just like the rest of us. And if the chance happens that Apple says computers bought after October 1 are qualified for the $19.95 update, then you'll luck out.
