Has Java in Panther been improved? What is the new version?

Specifically has the 'Live Connect' Java feature been fixed? Its still broken on OS X an thus renders applets at hushmail.com unusable.

From the FAQ found here :

https://www.hushmail.com/help.php?PH...aqs#compat-mac

'Will Hushmail run on my Mac?

Regrettably, Hushmail does not yet work on Macs. Recent tests with MacOS X found Javascript/Java communication (ie: LiveConnect) issues within tested Mac browsers preventing operation of our application.
VirtualPC on Mac is reported to load Hushmail without a problem. '

Cheers

Java version is 1.4.1_02 AFAIK

Liveconnect isn't part of Safari. This is not part of Java. It's a browser feature.

U managed to confuse me now. So you are saying LiveConnect is neither a Part of Java nor is it a part of Safari? U mean so LiveConnect is a Javascript feature that Safari doesn't support?

So why is it NONE onf the Mac browsers have EVER worked with this Hushmail?? This is beyond ridiculous.

I don't understand why Mozilla browser work on other platforms (winblowz/linux) but NOT THE MAC? I thought Mozilla shared the same code for all platforms an hence all supported the same feature set?

Perhaps there is a hushmail conspiricy against Mac's!!!?? This seems to be my last ditch idea on why this has never worked. Initially we were told Mac doesnt work because it has too old MRJ, we finally get OS X which we were told has the most modern an best performing Java. But its still doesn't work. Then Hush tells us Mac has tool old version of Java 1.3 so we need version 1.4.1. So now we finally have Java 1.4.1 an this STILL doesn't work, now they tell us its to do with some LiveConnect that isn't supported in ANY mac browser.

This is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO FRUSTRATING.

I sent many bug reports to Safari/Apple, no new info yet, there must be another source for which i can forward my complaints/requests? Perhaps i should invite all Mac users on this board to load hushmail page an send a bug report. Maybe, just maybe a larger volume of bug reports will provoke some action from these guys?

Javascript is NOT Java nor has it ANYTHING to do with it.

Good to remember and I understand how it can be confusing. Call it Livescript it Jscript like M$ does. Makes life simpler.
I could take Sean Connery in a fight... I could definitely take him.

You're right. It is frustrating. The thing, and the base of this problem, is that on all other platforms (and on Mac OSX up until Java 1.4.1) Java is enabled as a plugin in the same manner that it's always been done. But in java 1.4.1 Apple switched from a Java being enabled as a Carbon application to Java being enabled as a Cocoa application. This means that all connections between the browser and the Java plugin, one of which is Liveconnect, don't work anymore or at least not like they used to. I have no idea whether this will ever work in safari. It might well work in a future version of Mozilla (you would be better off making bugreports to Mozilla instead of Apple) but it will take time.
