Can anyone who has the panther developer preview tell me if apple has finally implemented an Erase CD-RW option somewhere in the finder...im really getting sick of using disk copy to perform this simple function.

Nope! In fact, they've removed it from Disk Copy, so now you have to go to Disk Utility and risk erasing your hard drive if you click in the wrong place. Ha ha!

Every experience I have had with CD-RW is horrible. Very unreliable and feels like a hack job, never use em.

Moreover, being that CD-Rs can be had for ~10¢ / piece, they no longer make sense economically.

I use mini-CDRW discs quite a bit. 210 megs on them, and tiny. They have held me over from buying a more expensive USB memory key. I was disappointed to see that my Powerbook slot load drive wouldn't accept them though, after using them with no problems in my slot load G4 Cube CD burner.

For certain uses, such as testing boot CD's, CD-RW is a lifesaver. I don't even want to think of how many coasters I would generate with plain old CD-R's...

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

10¢ saved are 10¢ saved. They come in handy as floppy replacement if you don't want or can't use a network connection.

Who wants to access a CD-RW erasing function easily can install a Unix utility like cdrdao and start it with an applescript that is placed in the script menu in the menubar.
(Well, you want to start a shell script that unmounts it first with disktool and perhaps ejects it after erasing).

CD-R's on macs stink. The biggest thing windows users complain about is the stupid way the Mac OS handles CD. Burn a CD-R once? What a complete waste. Windows users are used to adding files as the go along - until the CD is all used up. Apple should at least offer an erase from finder function for CD-R/W's.
Yes, I know I could buy a PC, but why?

DirectCD is only for use with CD-RW discs, and Anand was talking about writing multiple sessions to a Cd-R disc. It is possible with Apple's burning tools to burn multiple sessions to a CD-R/W, but it's tricky. For every session you want on a disc you need to make a disc image and burn the image everytime, instead of simply leaving the disc unclosed after you burn.
I still think Apple should implement some sort of packet writing into OS X (what DirectCd and inCD do.) Didn't Steve say CD-RWs were just big floppy disks? They hardly are on the Mac. More like clumsy and time wasting.
