I had a hard drive in my dual Athlon with lots of music files on it. Then the motherboard fried so I picked up a new dual G5. I bought an external USB 2.0 enclosure and I'm trying to mount the Win XP drive on my G5 but it won't work. I thought OS X could read Windows drives? It keeps telling me I have to initialize the disk. Any suggestions? Right now I've got the drive connected to my Dell laptop (USB 1.1) and am sharing it over the network to get the files onto the G5. Very slow and cumbersome. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jon

OS X can read FAT formatted windows hard disks. It cannot read NTFS disks. You can install this software which supposedly gives you read access to NTFS volumes. I've never tried it:

Thanks for the info. I installed the program and my drive mounted... but it's incredibly buggy. I wasn't able to browse any directories and certain files would just disappear when I clicked on them. I think I'll just settle with slow transfer speeds for now.
