Borrow the friends video camera and use it as a bridge between the vhs/analogue and your Mac. Use iDVD (free) to then burn the DVDs. No need to buy a DVd encoder, it's free. The camcorder has the VCR as input and its output is to the Mac.

Why not just burn it directly to DVD-R? The Panasonic DMR-E50 costs only $375, and you don't even need a computer.

Well , I have a camera .. .and .. i havent got a DVDR so ill just burn ordinary CDs =)) Thanks for the replyes. The ADVC sounds great but 300$ to spend to just get some tapes to the hard drive .. nah .. Maybe ill get a DV camera in the future but for then ill just take my camera to a friend to make the analog camera-pc-cd-mac transfer.
Is the iMovie progrma ok? Does it work good? Is it bether to split bigger movies into little pieces or just import the whole movie into iMovie and cut it there ?

The Panasonic IS a DVD burner, and it doesn't need either a Mac or a PC. It works like a VCR, except it burns DVDs.
