Now that 10.3 will be out soon, what should I do? I have a 17" 1GHz iMac and was wondering if I should back everything up and reformat or do I install over it? I do have a 120 GB firewire drive that I can back stuff up on too. Also, what do people think is the easiest way to back stuff up? Just copy files over and back??

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!

Under normal circumstances, especially on a well maintained machine, Archive and Install gives you about 99% of the value of reformatting and reinstalling, with about 1% the effort.

If it's really easy for you to back everything up, you can go for the format, but it's unnecessary and unnecessarily time consuming.

I plan to reformat, but only because it's been a long time since I last did it. Unless you have a real hankering to reformat, an archive install will be all you need.

Refresh my memory.. what exactly happens when you perform an "Archive and Install?" I always reformat but I might be willing to consider Archive and Install if I knew exactly what it does.

It takes your existing System folder and puts it into a "Previous System Folder" folder and installs a totally fresh System Folder....and it doesn't touch your current User folder and Network settings....

I'm going to buy a new and faster HD and install it on that...

I did an archive and update on with 10.2, but not again...

"Archive and Install" should do the trick for you. Although the solution to every problem from my PC-only days: Reformat the HD.
