A lot of times on a new Windows machine it is a good idea to do a clean install of the Windows OS. Is it a good idea (any reason at all) to do a clean install of Mac OS X on a new machine? Also, does new hardware come with full versions of the OS X?

The first thing I do when I get a new machine is start it up and make sure it works, all the memory is recognized, the drves work, etc. Then I reformat the puppy and start from scratch.

After this, you can usually just do an Archive and Install in the future -- which reinstalls the entire OS foundation while maintaining your user settings.

And yes, new Macs come with a full version of the most recent OS available (taking into account a new OS could be released in 30 days).
