I'm wondering if there's a kay command to force the mac to boot to the login screen at startup. Most of the time I want it to auto login to a non-admin user, but sometimes I want to log in as the admin without going through the rigamarole of logging the other user out first.

(OS X 10.2.8)

Well I've checked several sites with Mac OS X keyboard shortcut listings, and I haven't seen one to disable auto-login. I could swear that I've seen it though...

I figured it out: hold down shift during boot up when you're past the grey apple screen and are on the blue "Mac OS X" screen.

Thanks for the help anyhow.

You do want to wait until the system starter just about finishes though. Wait for the progress bar to be almost or even completely finished, then hold shift. Otherwise you may be disabling some other system kexts.
