I routinely use 'ssh -X' to tunnel remote X apps. When I login the terminal freezes up after I launch an X app. I have to close the terminal and login again and then it works. The shell login works fine it is only the X apps that cause problems.

I'm doing this on a powerbook and I think it is related to my IP changing when I'm at a new location.

Are you backgrounding the task after you run it? Otherwise the application will stay attached to your terminal window for its stdin/stdout. You can either launch the program with a & at the end of the command, or hit [ctl]-z and then type bg at the prompt to pause and disconnect the job from your terminal.

Sorry, I wasn't being clear. The GUI app never shows up and the terminal is not responsive. If I close the terminal and open a new one and reconnect the the app launches fine. If I run "users" I still see my old session running.

Why don't you run it through X11.. I use that for running Apps on my school's Sun server.. for some reason I can't get it to work through the terminal.
