Hi,
My iBook has recently had a complete meltdown. I can't even get it to boot up to the startup screen or display anything. The disk makes noise, and it will let me do things like eject the CD drive. However, I can't get it to boot from a CD. I insert a CD and hold down the "c" key, but no screen comes up, although it sounds like it is spinning and searching the disk. I don't think that it's a monitor problem. Is there anyway I can reset the memory or something? What could be the problem? Thanks for your help.

Find/borrow a notebook with FW. Put your machine in Target Disk mode and try installing to it from the other notebook.

Or get a FW CD rom, boot from it and install from there.

Or you can try resetting PRAM, CUDA switches, PowerManager, hardware test (maybe CD-rom is faulty?), Open firmware reset, etc. Do some searches.

Also, try another boot CD. Sometimes copies made at high speeds (over 4X) do not read in older CD-ROMs.

I'm a bird. I am the 1% (of pets).
