I have a Power Mac G4 733 MHz Quicksilver, but took out the stock 733 MHz processor and put in an OWC 1.47 GHz G4 processor. It should work, but the system requirements on Apple's web site say it does not support upgrade cards. I see no reason why it wouldn't though.

I am wondering the same thing. I asked in another forum and no one has answered.

Running Other World Computing's 1.2MHZ (OC'd to 1.3) on a sawtooth. GeForce cards don't appear to work with this machine and panther though.

A bit off topic, but I'm curious, are you experiencing and wake from sleep kernal panics with your OWC 1.2GHz card? I have a friend who got one for his Dig. Audio G4, and he can't put his machine to sleep without waking to a KP. He's getting absolutely no help from OWC, and can't really find anyone else who has the card to see if they have the same problem.

I'm running 7B85 on a G4 with an 800 mhz Sonnet Encore ST upgrade.
No problems at all.

I have the same original machine and a similar upgrade card. My card has the option of overclocking to 1.33GHz (It was dubbed at the 1.2-1.33GHz upgrade card), but if it's overclocked the machine will have a kernal panic when waking from sleep.
I changed the jumpers as instructed in the manual to bring the speed to 1.2GHz and the problem is gone. Also ask your friend if he has any other third party hardware installed (soundcard, CD burner, etc).. he could try removing those and see if the problem persists.

Thanks for the reply. He has the problem with the stock speed (1.2GHz) as well as 1.33GHz and 1.4GHz over clocked speeds. I actually suggested that he disconnect all of his peripherals to him today, so he's going to try that. He does have a 3rd party internal CD burner. I will suggest that he disconnect that if disconnecting all of his peripherals doesn't work.
I also suggested that he reset his logic board. This has been suggested on xlr8yourmac.com to solve other issues.
He told me today that OWC's website even states that none of their cards suffer from the wake from sleep issues that other cards suffer from. This makes me think that he may have a bum card.

I just tried it and i don't get a KP waking from sleep in P******r. Are you asking about Jaguar? I have it OC'd to 1.3 not 1.35 which may make a difference. So far (not counting the blasted video card problem) it has been a totally flawless upgrade in P******r and Jaguar and makes OS 9 insane.
Is the computer's firmware up to date (4.2.8)?
Let me know if i can try anything else for you.

Offically Apple says Panther will not support processor upgrade cards, but they've said this in the past and people didn't have a problem with it.

Yea.. that's a good idea. I'd bet its the CD burner. If he is still experiencing the problem when all the peripherals have been disconnected, he should ask OWC for a replacment or a refund before the warranty runs out!
