I dont have time tonight to mess with this but heres my deal.

I have an iBook that I've used for about 1 year so all of my Safari prefs are the way I want them and such. Now how do I transfer my stuff to my new iMac?

I did a little firewire target disc mode and I did a "restore" from my "backup" program (idisc) but I dont know where all that went. its not updated my bookmarks though... contacts ect.

iSync isnt used for this is it? I only have an ethernet cable to share between the 2 (or a firewire cable)

Help..... thanks!!!!!

carbon copy cloner does a damn good job doing a complete clone, and I think it can do just directories too.

firewire target mode works like a champ for this sort of stuff, where you have a "local" disk which is actually your laptop. this is how I used ccc (which in turn is really just psync).

for access while you're booted, IP over firewire works great, just use afp.

also, isync actually syncs more than you'd think. maybe not safari settings, but it does sync the url typeahead db entries, and probably more - pretty sweet!

last thing - for osx, if you just copy your home dir, all your settings are identical on the new machine. very nice.

so just copy my home folder over and replace?

No problem. Believe me, once you've done it you'll see that it's actually rather easy. It sonds much worse than it really is.
