i have experience logging into a local mysql server from the terminal, but not from a windows machine to a remote server.. can anyone help me out? I am pretty windows ignorant!

Fire up a command prompt and enter the following:

cd *PATHTOMYSQL*\bin
mysql -h*IPADDRESS* -u*USER* -p

Simple as that

sounds too easy for windows! how do i connect to the remote machine?

the "-h <ip address of remote machine>" argument tells mysql to connect to that machine instead of the local one.

Dont forget to make sure that the user account you are connecting with has privileges from remote adresses!
