Right now, my finder is perpetually quitting and relaunching. It started a few minutes ago, after I was accessing a Windows network drive using DAVE. Could this be the result of a corrupt preference file, or is my system toasted? Has anyone here had this happen to them?

I've run DiskWarrior, deleted caches, repaired permissions, none of which helped.

Any suggestions from anyone?

P.S. I just hit the force-quit key combo and the force quit window shows a huge list of Finders as though I have multiple instances running.

Did you try deleting the Finder preference file? That's usually the cause for problems like this.

I looked for it but could not find it in the preferences folder, which I thought was strange.

if all else fails, one thing you can try is reinstalling Finder.app off of CD with Pacifist. this cured the same issue for me.

good luck.
