Greetings..

after some problems with my osx seem irreperable, i wanna do a new, clean install...
i cannot boot into osx, no os9 installed - what is the best way to back up as much as possible? what is "you must backup that system setting or you will burn in hell", what is "do one mouseclick in your new system and you wont have to backup that 15gb"?
and how do i backup my itunes-library best? i mean - with all these folders on the hdd...
the same for the whole mail-thing..

i'm trying to copy the whole hdd via firewire-targetmode to my pc... he got some trouble with some icon-files.. pfft

so - suggestions?

greetings

(swearing to do a copycloner-backup every week now)

- bonus question: only have 10.0 here, jaguar cd is broken.. install, wait for panther and do another clean install or just put panther over it?

If it's just OS X that's dead, not the HD formatting, try an archive install from the jag CD. That'll fix most everything.

Yeah, you mentioned copycloner already, but it deserves another mention. If you don't like the GUI, he lists all the things that he does at

Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

You will need to get a new Jag CD or wait for Panther before you can do an archive and install, but it's worth the wait. It's the simplest way to "backup" your user directory before reinstalling OS X.
