Just curious i am probably buying it anyway but would like to know. I assume it will be needed to update to work with panther correctly.

the techtool that comes with apple is is not techtool pro - it is techtool deluxe - a "lite" version of tt pro. there is a minor update that is avail for download and maybe there will be another later for panther compatibility but they've taken so long for the release of tt pro 4, i think it could be a while.
