hello all,

first off, sorry if this topic has been posted before, a search on these forums gave very little in terms of a solution.

sitting here getting upset cause i can't seem to get this problem sorted.

i have a g4 533mhz, and after installing the 10.2.8 update, the lexarmedia compact flash card will not mount any longer. the reader is the lexarmedia firewire and i have had no issues in the past.

if i go to the first aid drive setup util, i see the card and it says its unformatted and untitled. however, it will not show up on the desktop so i can't pull the images off it.

the card reader and compact flash card are working fine, cause i have a PB 1Ghz and when i attach it, it all works fine.

the firwire ports on the g4 are also fine, as i have an ipod which is working without a problem.

anyone have any ideas on how to solve this issue? please let me know.

thanks a lot.

I have a LexarMedia Firewire compact flash card reader that continues to work fine w/ my dual gig g4 w/ the 10.2.8 update. This tends to indicate that it might not necessarily be the OS X update that killed it for you?

Does your PB also have the 10.2.8 update? Did you install any other software recently? Did you install any other firewire devices recently?

Finder (menu) > Preferences...

Do you have all three boxes checked at the top, to show the items on the desktop?

Thanks for the help you 2.

first off... i have checked that removable drives etc. is checked in the finder prefs.

second... better add a couple of things to the mix.

i have a sonnet pci card in the g4 which has 2 firewire, 2 usb 2.0 ports. this is working fine.

i have tried pluging in the card reader to all the ports to check if i have a bad port etc. all ports working fine. anyway, i can see the card in disk first aid.

agreed that maybe 10.2.8 didn't kill me cause the PB is also 10.2.8.

however, the card reader stopped working after the 10.2.8 update. no software installed that i believe could cause an issue.

do you have any suggestions how i could naybe roll back the firewire drivers or do you reckon that's not what the cause is. reaching here because i'm really stuck.

lexarmedia were useless.

ps. i have reset using nvram but no joy.

thanks for the suggestions so far and keep them coming.

cheers

Managed to sort this issue myself in the end.

Came across this document from apple which works a treat. if the unmount doesn't work, then just remove the card reader, reboot and connect the card reader back with the flash card in it.

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75509

How did it happen? Still no idea.
