I am trying to migrate my partner to OS X from OS 9.2 since we now have a critical mass of her app's OS X compatible.
But I am having some problems with OS X running on her machine (a G4 Quicksilver).
In particular, I find that I cannot move windows by click/hold/dragging the window's title bar. As soon as I try and move the window it is immediately minimized to the dock.
I have been using OS X on my Titanium G4 and have never had this problem... neither with the touchpad or an attached trackball.
I upgraded her machine from 10.1 to 10.2 and hoped that the problem would go away but it has not.
I also have tried playing with the mouse settings in the System Preferences but have had no success.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It sure sounds like OS X is treating your mouse click as a double-click. If you single-click on a folder does it open (other than in the dock of course)? Try other things that might indicate that you're double-clicking. If that's the case I would suggest checking the settings for any mice that you've installed. If you're just using the trackpad (with no other mice connected) try setting the double-click speed higher.

odd.
You can switch off double-click-to-minimize behavior in the General pane of teh System Preferences, though, so that should be it.

Every once in a blue moon, OS X will minimize windows as soon as I click on the title bar (weird). Do you have a multi-button mouse? I have a vague suspicion it might be third-party mouse drivers. Either way, a re-login usually solves the problem.

Thanks for the suggestion it sounds like it would be an acceptable workaround. But when I look at the General Window in the System Preferences I don't see anywhere I can disable "double-click to minimize." Could you tell me where that option is in the System Preferences?
Thanks!

At this point the mouse is the Apple standard one that came with the G4. We did have a trackball installed at one point. It may be worthwhile hunting down and deleting the trackball drivers.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Unfortunately (since I hate double click minimizing) you can not turn it off.
Maybe the mouse is broken? Try a different one.

Oh, shite!
I'm sorry - it's there in 10.3 Panther, which I'm using, and it seems so natural for it to be there that I completely forgot it wasn't in 10.2! :/
I've just looked through all the com.apple user preference files, and I can't seem to find where this parameter is stored and could possibly be enabled in Jaguar.
Terribly sorry.
Might be an incentive to upgrade, though!

My error, sorry - see post above.
You CAN turn it off in Panther.

I think you are correct. It appears that the OS is interpreting a mouse click-hold as a double-click. Unfortunately nothing I have changed in the system preferences fixes this and no one has been able to tell me where I can disable the "double-click titlebar to minimize" option.
