Just to say first that after just buying a new G4 with OSX, I must say i love the new OS. It has been pretty much trouble gree to date. That is until I just updated the OS to 10.8 via the auto updater. Now when my computer goes into sleep mode and I leave it for more that a couple of hours, it will not awake. The screen redraws with a muted look, freezes and I get a boxed message with half a dozen languages that states that I must restart my computer. I have to hold the power button to shut down and restart. Has anyone else had this problem after the OS update? It was fine before.

Try unplugging all weird peripherals.

Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

I'm sure your hardware isn't nearly good enough to run 10.8!! My iMac could never run anything higher than 10.4 I'm sure.

My 17" Powerbook was doing this. It turned out to be a bad 512 meg chip that it came with. Apple is sending me a new chip. In the mean time it is running very nicely with a 512 meg chip from Ramjet.com

Thanks for the tips. The computer is a new 1.25 single processer and has been great till now. I will try to run some disk tests, zap the PRAM, etc to see if it helps. The only thing I have plugged into it is a floppy drive. I will unplug that. As far as RAM is concerned I bought another 512 about a month ago. Problem free so far. This started just after I did the update. Do you think the "newer" update would help? I did mine just after they posted the original.

The bad chip in my machine worked perfect under 10.2.6, but not under 10.2.8.
Somehow 10.2.8 seems to stress out RAM more.
Going back to 10.2.6 it would work fine, but as soon as I upgraded to 10.2.8 the problems would return.
I'm running fine now under 10.2.8 minus the Apple RAM chip.
My new Apple RAM chip should be here in the next few days. Hopefully the problems will not return.
